QUIGG NEWTON HOMES URBAN REVITALIZATION
Denver Housing Authority
Denver, Colorado
Funded by a Housing and Urban Development Revitalization Grant, the modernization is one of 32 demonstration projects throughout the country. The client’s goals were to master plan an existing low income housing development of 400 units in 83 buildings and eliminate 20 units, rehabilitate the unit interiors, provide exterior enhancements, and develop more open spaces for community gathering areas. Rehabilitation included complete refinishing, new kitchens and appliances, and new furnaces, water heaters. The renovation and new construction took almost three years to complete. Land studies provided more efficient use of open space along with improved accessibility to surrounding buildings within the complex. Additional exterior enhancements included redirected walkways, landscaping, play areas, improved lighting and off-street parking.
